Description du programme

Master of Public Policy

Hertie School of Governance

A cutting-edge programme for tomorrow’s leaders

The Hertie School’s Master of Public Policy (MPP) is a 2-year, full-time programme in English that provides the tools tomorrow’s decision-makers need to analyse policies, critically assess policy innovations and evaluate solutions. The programme offers an analytically challenging and problem-oriented education in governance, policy analysis, management and leadership, strengthened by real-world experience in the public and private sectors. It brings together perspectives from economics, political science, law and sociology, and trains students in quantitative and qualitative methodologies.

Our growing alumni network offers students and graduates access to an international community of successful policy professionals in leading organisations in many countries.

Specialise in policy analysis or management

Courses in economics, political science, statistics, public management and law give students a strong interdisciplinary foundation. Participation in a project course usually taught together with a public policy institution confronts students with the challenges of a real-world project. Interdisciplinary and problem-oriented teaching offer hands-on preparation that students can apply across borders, disciplines and sectors.

Students choose between two concentrations:

  • Policy analysis focuses on methods and tools of analysis such as statistics, econometrics or behavioural economics.
  • Management and organisation explore competencies such as strategy, change management or organisational design.

Students also take courses from a wide portfolio of electives to deepen their expertise in a policy field. These courses give students the knowledge, concepts and tools they need to write their master’s thesis on a concrete policy problem.
