Credits: 90 ECTS credits (master's thesis constitutes 30 credits)
Duration: 1 year + master’s thesis (3 semesters in total)

Objectives of the degree
The Master's Degree in Materials Science and Engineering aims to train students as professionals interested in applying the research and development of products, processes, and services in a variety of industrial sectors related to chemistry: specifically, in the field of materials science.
The master's degree will provide a deeper knowledge of the relationship between the structure of material properties, facilitating the synthesis and design of new materials with specific characteristics. You will learn how the development of new materials relates to technological progress (advanced materials), how structures are characterized (characterization of materials and corrosion) and how they can be modified. The different materials will introduce you to the field of nanostructured materials (nano-science and nano-technology) and their technological applications. You will acquire the necessary skills to put new products and materials on the market (in the course ‘formulations and biomaterials’).
You will obtain the officially recognized Master's Degree in Materials Science and Engineering.

The Master's Degree in Materials Science and Engineering will facilitate the acquisition of the following:
- Advanced knowledge of various disciplines of materials science enabling the identification and ability to analyze a multitude of materials, develop and apply original ideas and acquire new knowledge in your professional life
- Knowledge of chemical and management tools for research, development, and production of chemical products and services
- Knowledge of industrial sectors and new trends in the use of materials science
- Abilities in knowledge management and leading projects
Acceptance to Master's degree programs
The Master's Degree in Materials Science and Engineering targets students with a degree in chemistry, pharmacy, chemical engineering, biochemistry, biotechnology, nanotechnology or engineering degrees in similar fields. It is aimed at students who want to broaden their career options or direct their professional career towards the field of materials. Once students have obtained their master's degree, they will have access to employment as professionals in high-level research, development, and innovation in the industry. They will also be able to further develop their academic career by undertaking a doctoral degree in a similar research area.
In order to be admitted to the Master's Degree in Materials Science and Engineering, students will need to have obtained an undergraduate University degree from a Spanish institution, or an equivalent degree issued by a higher education institution established within the framework of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), accrediting access to master's level programs in the country issuing the qualification.
Students with degrees issued outside the EHEA will also be able to enroll in the master's degree without the need to validate their undergraduate coursework after IQS has ensured a level of education equivalent to the corresponding officially recognized Spanish University degree. The country issuing the qualification must be capable of issuing access to graduate level studies. Access via this route will by no means require validation of the qualification of the person interested and its recognition will not be used for any other purposes than for the enrollment in a master's program.

- Bachelor or Degree in Chemistry, or equivalent.
- Degrees in Chemical Engineering, Engineering of Material or equivalent.
- Degrees in Nanotechnology or equivalent.
b) Will be able to require of requirements previous to the start of the Master of Science:
- Degree in Industrial Technologies, Physical equivalent.
- Bachelor or Degree in Pharmacy or equivalent
- Bachelor or Degrees in Biochemistry, Biotechnology or equivalent
- Bachelor or Degrees in Environmental Sciences or equivalent
- Bachelor or degree of Engineering in the aforementioned fields
The Commission Adviser of the Master's Degree in Materials Science and Engineering will study each particular case and will elaborate the content of the requirements that have to do the candidate. The following table shows the requirements proposed, that will be corroborated or modified by the commission adviser depending on the candidate's individual study.

The Permanent Committee of the Academic Board, which examines each applicant and establishes the recognition of credits, will handle the admission of students from any national or foreign University system, that have studied at the undergraduate level within the EHEA framework.
In the case of students from EU member states, or from countries with which Spain has established international agreements, students are required to have a qualification enabling them to undertake graduate level University studies in their home country. Students from outside of the EU, or from countries that do not have an established agreement with Spain, must have passed the corresponding University entrance exam.
Students must have earned all the credits undertaken in order to obtain a master's degree.
During the academic year, students will normally have two opportunities to pass exams: in February and in June – for the first semester subjects – and in June and in September – for the second-semester subjects, or for subjects that last two consecutive semesters.
If a student does not pass an exam on the second attempt, two additional opportunities will be allowed. In the event that the student still has not obtained a pass in the subject, they can apply to the Permanent Committee of the Academic Board for a final opportunity to take the exam, justifying their position. The Permanent Committee of the Academic Board will examine the student's case and may complement this information by consulting the master's coordinator. If a student does not obtain a pass after having been granted an extra opportunity to take the exam, they will have to abandon the master's program.
